Spotlight on Pic St Loup
The wines of
Le Coteaux des Hautes Garrigues, Pic St Loup, Coteaux du Langudeoc

I was first alerted to the quality of the wines from the Cave Coop in St Martin de Londres by the juicy upfront fruit in their inexpensive Vin de Pays, which was the house wine at the village campsite. Their Pic St Loup wines are exemplary, showing good typicity, and are remarkable bargains (prices are at cellar door, in Euros).

Les Coteaux des Hautes Garrigues Hameau des Biranques 1999 Pic St Loup
Meaty, raspberry fruit nose. Palate is bright with good acidity amd a savoury, meaty spicy edge to the fruit. Good typicity and nice balance. Stunning value. Very good+ (4.85 Euros)

Les Coteaux des Hautes Garrigues Futs de Chene 2000 Pic St Loup
Striking nose showing spicy oak and savoury dense fruit. Good density on the palate but perhaps a little oak dominated at present. Very good+ (7.45 Euros)

Les Coteaux des Hautes Garrigues Hameau du Castellas 2001 Vin de Pays du val de Montferrand
Open spicy, smoky nose with a sweet liquoricey edge. Palate shows good density of cherry, spicy fruit. Very approachable: interesting stuff. Very good+ (4.26 Euros)
