The wines of Huff Estates, Prince Edward County
Visiting wine country in Ontario, Canada, part 8

Website: www.huffestates.com

Owners Lanny and Catherine Huff are locals, having grown up in the County. They began their project in 2002/3, and the winery was opened in 2004. Since then they have added luxury accommodation and an art gallery.

We tasted with winemaker Frédéric Picard, who hails from Burgundy. He’s been at Huff since the start. The focus is on sparkling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

THE WINES

Huff Estates Cuvée Peter F Huff 2007 Prince Edward County, Canada
A blend of 60% Chardonnay with 40% Pinot Noir. Full yellow colour. Ripe, rich flavours of apple and pear, showing good concentration and some spice and toast notes. The Pinot brings lots of richness and body here. 91/100

Huff Estates Cuvée Jasmine Rosé 2010 Prince Edward County, Canada
12 hours skin contact in a super-ripe year have yielded this dark coloured rosé. Lively, intense cherry and raspberry fruit. Very fruity, lively and full with rich fruity character. 88/100

Huff Estates South Bay Vineyard Chardonnay 2010 Prince Edward County, Canada
Toasty and nutty with fresh pear and white peach fruit. Lovely precision: pure with nice texture and freshness. 92/100

Huff Pinot Gris 2012 Ontario, Canada
75% Prince Edward County, 25% Niagara. Tight, fresh, lively and bright with lemony fruit and good acidity. Linear style. 87/100

Huff Estates South Bay Vineyard Merlot 2010 Prince Edward County, Canada
This is a vintage-dependent wine, with the vines yielding just a ton an acre. Fresh, bright cherry and berry fruits with high acidity. Pure with some oaky notes and hints of spice in the background. 89/100
