Skype rocks

Just spent 40 minutes calling California for an interview. Normal phone charges would have made this an expensive conversation. With Skype, it just cost me 52 p. Quality was great.

This followed on from a conference call with the fellow organizers of the Sparkling wine symposium, which we also did on Skype, and which cost nothing.

Just another example of how the internet has changed the way that we communicate. Some people make use of it; many don't.

I use Skype quite a lot at work. It's a great concept but call quality can frequently be intolerable, especially on conference calls. Always worth a try though, given the low/zero cost, but have a back up plan - a bit like keeping a reserve wine on standby in case the special one you selected for your dinner party is spoilt.

Skype is fantastic, we have used it on occasion when family and friends have been in the US. However i tried to get my mother to use it and found that for someone who dosent believe in the internet has a big problem with the concept of free video calls.

There's a call quality guide on the Skype website which might help - and please give me a shout if you have any questions :)

Dont forget, when calling the U.S., 1-800 numbers are totally free when using skype!
