Your chance to buy some cracking Vouvrays at knock-down prices

Grand Cru Wines are currently offering some Vouvrays from Clos Baudoin (Prince Philippe Poniatowski) at remarkably low prices. I thought I’d do my duty to wineanorak readers to draw attention to this offer (I should add there is no commercial link between wineanorak and Grand Cru Wines), which I’ve, of course, taken advantage of myself.  

Poniatowski is now over 80 and is selling off some of his stock, hence the keen prices. While there has been some discussion about whether Poniatowski is still in the top tier of Vouvray producers or not among Vouvray afficianados, I’ve already cracked a couple of these wines – the 1990 Aigle Blanc Moelleux and the 1989 Aigle Blanc Vin de Tris – and they have been pretty impressive, verging on the excellent. I’m very pleased to now have a broad range of these wines stashed away and, frankly, at these prices for mature wines from good vintages, it’s hard to go wrong.

According to Grand Cru Wines, ‘The selection includes wines from the exceptional 1989 and 1990 vintages, as well as 1995s and 1997s, which were also top vintages for Moelleux wines. If you are looking for drier wines, then the 2001 and 2000 Clos Baudoin are excellent, and the 1984 Aigle Blanc is now a bargain at less than £6.00. All these wines will last easily for twenty years and more. The wines will be shipped at the end of next week, and will be available for delivery in early July. Cases may be mixed at the bottle prices.’
