The
wines
of Jean Lionnet/Domaine de Rochepertuis, Cornas, Northern Rhône,
France
Jean Lionnet’s Domaine de Rochepertuis consists of 13.5
hectares of vineyards in and around the southerly Northern Rhône appellation of Cornas.
These are traditionally styled wines of solid quality, and compared
with much of what comes from the Rhône these days, prices are very
reasonable (typically the Syrah is under £8 and the Cornas around £14).
Lionnet Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Syrah 1998
Very appealing spicy, slightly meaty nose. Palate is rich and savoury
– slightly rustic, but with mouthfilling savoury, meaty fruit and
lovely acidity. Very good+
Lionnet Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Syrah 1999
Appealing savoury, spicy nose. Light, juicy, savoury palate with
good acidity. Nicely savoury in quite a light style. Very good+
Lionnet
Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Syrah 2001
Spicy nose with a toasted edge. High acidity dominates the intensely
savoury palate. Quite expressive but tough. Very good
Domaine de Rochepertuis Cornas 1999
Ripe, firm, spicy nose with dusty fruit. The palate is midweight,
dense, chewy and spicy. Nicely structured in a traditional style. Very
good+
Lionnet
Domaine de Rochpertuis Cornas 2001
Roasted, spicy nose. High acid palate is quite lightweight for Cornas,
with firm tannins, bright fruit and a tarry, roasted edge. Very good
