Quinta de Roris Vinhos, Apartado 16, 4431 901 Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

A well-sited Quinta in the upper Douro, 5 km above Pinhão, owned jointly by media magnate João Van Zeller and the Symingtons. There are 50 hectares of vineyards in this 200 hectare property, and a new winery was completed in 2005. It seems to be going places, and the Prazo is one of the best of the affordable Douro wines (retailing at around 8 Euros in Portugal).

Prazo de Roriz 2004
Appealing fresh, ripe jammy nose with sweet fruit. The palate is forward and sweetly fruited with good concentration and an easy-going nature. Impressive stuff. Very good+ 88/100

Quinta de Roriz Reserva 2004
Concentrated sweet, ripe, supple jammy dark fruits nose. Almost Port-like. The palate is soft and lush with sweet spicy notes. Good concentration to this dense yet accessible wine. Very good/excellent 91/100
