When you read a tasting note written by
someone else of a wine that you are familiar with, do you recognise
it? How much do individual perceptions differ? And do we use different
language to describe the same tasting sensations? If these questions
interest you, then let me make a suggestion: let's independently taste
a bunch of wines, and then compare notes. After carrying out this exercise
with with Majestic's Spanish tasting weekend (notes to appear soon), I
thought it would be worth repeating for the Fetzer/Bonterra tasting
week (already underway).
If you can get near a branch of
Majestic Wine over the next three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday 2nd-4th October) they
have a selection of wines from the Fetzer/Bonterra range on tasting. Take along a pen
and paper, and write your own tasting notes on these wines. I'll do
the same. Then type them up and e-mail them to me, and I'll compile
them and post them here on this site. It will be fascinating to see
how our perceptions correlate. Do make an effort to join in: I think
it will be quite a fun exercise. If you can't manage it this week,
we'll repeat this again for the South Africa tasting weekend (12-14th October).
