cheese

Just finishing off bits and pieces (an express column and an article on climate change) before my wickedly early start for Spain tomorrow. To accompany my writing, I'm eating a cheese that's new to me: Doux de Montagne, described as a mild cheese with a fruity flavour and a creamy texture. It's mid-way between a hard and soft cheese, and has nice mildly tangy flavour. One I think I'll buy again.

Had a gorgeous Comte last Friday evening at Teddington's L'Auberge. I love Comte, but this one was particularly good, with a lovely smokiness and loads of flavour. Other current favourites include Manchego and Cave Aged Gruyere.

Yes - have a good trip.

Doux de Montagne. Unusual in that it is a Pyrenean cheese which is not from goat. Try it with an Irouleguy rose!

I recently discovered Toma Piedmontese and have been enjoying Le Chevre Noir the last few years.

Have a great time in Spain. I love the entire country and all of its variations. If you are stopping into Vega Sicilia, say Hi to Purificacion for us back in Boston. She did a great tasting last time at one of the wine stores.

Where are you publishing the climate change article? I'm starting the WSET Diploma in January and been doing a bit of research for the essay on climate change they have this year. I'd be intersted in reading what you have to say.

Sadly it seems that blogger beta doesn't rock at the moment.

Sadly not going to have time to see any spanish wineries, but may have a chance to pop into one or two Alentejo estates on the way back to Lisbon this morning.
