One of the highlights of the recent ‘Real Wine’ tasting was this superb Jura wine, from Ganevat, whose wines I have just written up on the main wineanorak site. This wine is deeply moving. Definitely a real wine.
Jean-François Ganevat Savagnin Cuvée Prestige 2004
This is a multifaceted chameleon of a wine, and I really like it. It has a remarkably lively salty, minerally, tangy nose that’s complex and sherried, but very fresh. The palate is lemony, herby, tangy and intense. So fresh and bright with some appley, nutty depth. Warm, long, rich finish. 95/100
I love Jura wines. Must try some of Ganevat’s.
I’ve tried these wines before as Les Caves de Pyrene is local to me, and agree they are very good. There is a great range there.
I haven’t tasted any Jura yet but the label is so elegant. (I know, right?)
I realised I got that completely wrong..It is the http://www.caveavins.org that is near to me and stock lots of Jura wines. They are a great little shop if you are in the area.
The Ganevat wines are killer and my all time favourite Jura white was a Ganevat ’02 Savagnin I had last month. Nice pick!
I have a bottle of 1986 –Grand Vins Du jura — Arbois Pupllin–Vin Jaune. I have aother bottle — Vin de Paille of similar vintage –may be older Les Vins Auguste Pirou. Any idea about their current value and drinkability??
