Gamay Focus 11, Château de Beauregard Fleurie Poncié 2013

fleurie poncie beauregard beaujolais gamay

Continuing the Gamay journey, it’s back to Beaujolais.

This Fleurie is from a sixth-generation family producer, and the vineyard is managed to promote microbial life, although it isn’t certified organic. The family have owned this Poncié plot since 1872, and it’s on a steep slope which tops out at 400 m. Soils are decomposed granite, and the average age of the vines is 55 years. Winemaking is traditional, with destemming and cap plunging, and the wine is allowed to clarify naturally after long ageing on lees.

Château de Beauregard Fleurie Poncié 2013 Beaujolais, France
13% alcohol. A lighter-coloured Beaujolais that’s really fine, sappy and elegant, with a leafy green edge to the pure, silky, floral cherry fruit. Such finesse and purity. Delicate and fine with a sapid, autumnal finish and nice acidity. 93/100 (£12.95 The Wine Society)
