I’ve reviewed the wines of Shaw & Smith before, here and here. I got to taste some of the latest releases, and I’m once again pretty impressed. The Sauvignon Blanc pays the bills for the other wines. The Chardonnay is probably the true star in the line up, but everything’s good here.

Shaw & Smith Pinot Noir 2012 Adelaide Hills, Australia
12.5% alcohol. Ripe yet fresh nose with a leafy edge to the sweet red cherry fruit. Pure and quite elegant. The palate has fine, bright, elegant red cherry fruit with just a hint of herbs and undergrowth. The focus here is pure, fine red cherries with a lovely open mouthfeel. Finesse all the way. 92/100 10/14

Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Adelaide Hills, Australia
12% alcohol. Very fresh, aromatic pear and citrus nose. The palate is crisp with grapefruit and lemon characters. Lively and bracing with lovely purity. Plenty of acidity but it isn’t harsh. 91/100

Shaw & Smith Shiraz 2012 Adelaide Hills, Australia
13.5% alcohol. Fresh, sweet black cherry and raspberry nose with a hint of ginger and nice peppery notes, as well as some cured meat. Beguiling with real interest. The palate is silky and ripe but with great definition, and a hint of vanilla adds some sweetness to the supple cherry and plum. Textured and quite elegant. 93/100

Shaw & Smith M3 Chardonnay 2013 Adelaide Hills, Australia
12.5% alcohol. Taut, complex, aromatic nose with bright citrus, subtle toast, some pear and a bit of peachy richness. Fine spiciness, too. The palate is rich but fresh with lively pear and citrus fruit, sweet toasty nutty notes and a mineral finish. Powerful and taut, this needs time. A super wine. 94/100
