A relative newcomer on the Port scene, founded by Johnny Graham (pictured) in 1981, Churchill have now begun making table wines, too. I’ve tried a few vintages of their wines, and come away thinking that they are on the right sort of lines, aiming at elegance and balance rather than power.

Churchill Estates 2004
Smooth, sweet, supple fruity dark fruits nose leading to a supple ripe palate, showing some elegance and good acidity. Really nice purity of fruit here, with good freshness. Perhaps finishes just a touch short? Very good/excellent 91/100
