Grunhuas Abs Kab 02: a beautiful Riesling

Just the sort of Riesling I'm always in the mood from, from one of my favourite German producers. Great label, too. Glad I bought two bottles of this, and wish I'd bought a few more.

Maximin Grünhäus Abstberg Riesling Kabinett 2002 Mosel Saar Ruwer, Germany
7.5% alcohol. Very fresh, precise and taut with lovely spicy grapefruit notes as well as lemon and melon fruitiness. Beautiful balance and freshness to this nicely concentrated Kabinett that displays some complexity and brilliant focus. Just lovely: the style of Riesling I can drink all the time. 93/100 (£13 Lay & Wheeler)

Might be a beautiful Riesling but the lable design is rather 'busy' but it is distingitive.....in a 'busy sort of way'.

Apart from the fame, artistic label design would catch our first sight, then falling in love with the wine...

Mosel Saar Ruwer often got some awesome well balance Riesling. That's where my first crush is on. Fresh lemon and peach pungent.

Think the label is awful myself but there you are---we are all different.

Yes, it is an awful label, but that's part of the charm, I think - it just doesn't ponder to modern design

the label seems arcane, baroque in an obscure way --- until you've been to the estate, then it all makes sense --- c'mon 1,000 plus years of wine production deserves a label like this!! - (largely unchanged since the 19th century)

Undoubtedly a beautiful, livid Riesling; great drinking wine at a good price.

I like their labels. If people can see the charm in this kind of overblown, baroque label then I think they'd also appreciate the Austrian producer Emmerich Knoll's efforts; ornate labels at their most extravagant.

Coincidentally opened a bottle of the 89 this weekend - lovely graceful old lady, perfect Match of The Day wine
