You've posted steep vineyards a few times in the last few months. What do you get from these serious slopes aside from backbreaking labor at harvest?
Jamie I read your blog every day and I have to say if these are your photos then your cameracraft is seriously picking up!
Glen, I think it's the low vigour and exposure to the sun - slopes tend to be better for vines, overall, because the vines regulate their vegetative growth and concentrate on fruit production
anon, it's so nice to have an anonymous comment that isn't mean - thank you. Yes, they are my pics.

"Mean"? Get over yourself, Jamie. If you put yourself out there on the web, you can expect some criticism from time to time.
Another anonymous one that isn't mean (mine is anonymous cos I am unable of remembering my login)...
I can totally understand why you miss it. The pictures are enough to make me miss it, and I've never actually been there. Except one trip down (I think) that railway line back in 1982, entering Portugal for the first time, which I can still remember now... the dawn and the smell of pine resin, the tiny stations with their beautiful ceramics...
Just back from three days at Vargellas - what a place!
"if you put yourself out there on the web you can expect some criticism from time to time.." What a absolute load of rubbish....you are the guy who criticises for the sake of criticism....just get over yourself and get on with our life elsewhere....
Sorry, Anon, don't you believe in free speech?
Or perhaps you'd rather live in China or Nazi-era Germany, where freedom of expression is, shall we say, frowned upon?
You always say that "Anon" - but you don't really express free speech - rather just a consistent trend at criticising Jamie's every move....
I don't always criticise Jamie. I criticise him if I disagree with something he's written.
Do you see the difference?
How can it be free speech when you hide your identity, Anon? That's just unaccountable sniping, the classic tactic of a bully and a coward.
What does identity have to do with anything?
The point being that this website allows people to comment on Jamie's posts.
Clearly, some people would rather that only sycophantic comments were posted here – not sure why Jamie needs protecting in this way, but there you go...
For speech to be 'free', Anon, it has to be on the basis that you can be held to account for your stated views. You choose not to be accountable,by witholding your identity.Clear enough for you now?
Clear enough for you now?
Please don't try and be patronising; it's not a good look.
What everyone is skirting around here is that if ever anyone DARES to object to something Jamie writes, a load of people automatically leap to his defence, as if the guy is immune from criticism.
Total nonsense.
I disagree - it is not total nonsense - you are total nonsense and your defensiveness highlights both a cowardly insecurity and a lack of intelligence. Have you never noticed that no-one ever jumps to defend your hostile corner? why do you think that is? i'll tell you - it is because you only ever do one thing - you attack with a sarcastic poison which negates the credibility of everything you say - please go away and do your free speech cry elsewhere - you are a waste of time - go away!!!!!
I have to say, in response to Martin, that they way things are going on the web, with future bosses, government, etc. having access to everything we have ever said, "anonymous" is looking like the only sensible thing to be.
Dear "Anon" - interesting that you choose not to use your own name, either - I'm afraid I'm not going anywhere.
I will continue to criticise Jamie's output as I see fit, and there's nothing you can do about it.
WOW - why are you filled with such rage? - you really are an angry person aren't you? How sad.
Hang on - you're accusing me of being the angry one, when you post stuff like "- you are a waste of time - go away!!!!!"
Also, half the time, I only keep responding because I love to read your hilarious posts, too!
Keep up the good work!
Right - off you go then little boy.
