Had a lovely evening on Thursday. It was a last-minute invitation from Roberson’s Mark Andrew, who was holding a small dinner for new agency Hirsch: Jasmine Hirsch, daughter of founder David Hirsch was in town with wines in tow.
I have written up the wines – some of California’s most exciting Pinot Noirs – separately here. They are impressively balanced and show a distinctive personality that isn’t Burgundy, but which is as interesting as Burgundy, if you see what I mean.
The dinner was held at The Grain Store, a really impressive new restaurant located in the newly redeveloped Granary Square. This is one of London’s new public spaces, part of the ongoing King’s Cross regeneration, and looked quite beautiful in the warm colours of a late summer evening. It’s just across Regent’s Canal from King’s Cross station.
The Grain Store specializes in vegetable dishes, and the food – a succession of small plates – was properly innovative and delicious. Thoroughly recommended, and I’m going to try to get back as soon as possible.
