Natural wines are often expensive, but frequently worth it. Here’s one that’s fantastic, and affordable. I can’t find it on the Oddbins website, so it may be a case of scouring stores to locate bottles. But this is a wine worth hunting down, I reckon. One of my bargains of the year, especially at the 12 bottle price (may be mixed) of £7.19.
Domaine Mas Theo Vin Vivant 2007 Coteaux du Tricastin, France
From Terroirs Vivants, 13% alcohol. This is beautifully perfumed: sappy, subtly herbal with sweet, ethereal cherry fruit and some peppery notes. Wonderfully pure. The palate is spicy, peppery and fresh with superbly elegant cherry and berry fruit. Finishes fresh. A truly lovely wine. 93/100 (£8.99 Oddbins)

I’ve just found this in my local oddbins (st margarets, twickenham), and it’s new in. So maybe it will appear on the website.
and here it is – http://www.oddbins.com/products/productdetail.asp?ProductCode=1566
Wanted to visit whilst in the region recently but dont accept visitors and couldnt get to the wine shop they suggested. I did however pick up another natural wine that Oddbins sell/will sell – La Granacha. Interesting price differential – I know there’s duty, transport etc to account for and mine might be a different year – as available for 7.10 euros locally but £14 each here. Ouch!
The Mas Théo is lovely stuff, yes. I don’t like points myself, but do think 93 is a bit generous, I have to say, tho this wine keeps surprisingly well over a couple of days, retaining its freshness and purity.
Bought one of these after your recco, Jamie. Lovely stuff. Really bright, peppery and energetic. Magic. Bought a load more. Thank you!
