A brilliant, affordable natural Salice Salentino

Come with me to the south of Italy, and to a winery who I know very little about, and about whom there is very little on the internet. This is a natural wine, made with no added sulfur dioxide, and it’s deliciously open and drinkable. It’s not expensive (I can’t find a UK stockist, but it should be around £10-12), and it gives me a lot of pleasure.

Natalino del Prete ‘Torre Nova’ 2009 Salice Salentino, Italy
A blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. Low yields, organic, unfiltered, unfined, no added sulfur dioxide. Sweet and savoury. Gluggable cherry fruit with a lovely peppery freshness, as well as some warm, rich, textured characters. There’s a hint of meaty wildness, too, as well as a touch of apricot. Very nice open, pure fruit character but also lovely savouriness, with some grippy tannin. A beautiful, complex, elegant natural wine. 91/100 (UK agent Les Caves de Pyrene)

  1. Hello Jamie,
I am sure this asking much but can you check out my kickstarter project? I designed a combined corkscrew and wine aerator and it’s online now. I want to do my part to help the corked bottle culture so I made a better bottle opener. I have a few prototypes left so if you want one please let me know ASAP because they will go to the first to ask. Thanks for your time.
