Beer: three BrewDogs

BrewDog (website here) is a provocative, creative and innovative brewery in Scotland, currently making some of the UK’s most interesting beers.
I tried three of them, all available in Sainsbury’s. They’re brilliant. To quote one of the back labels: ‘The UK beer scene is sick. And we are the doctor.’

BrewDog Punk IPA
5.6% alcohol. Lively and fresh with explosive flavours of citrus fruit, warm spices and bitter hoppy notes. Refreshing and powerful with mouthfilling flavour. 9/10

BrewDog Hardcore IPA
9.2% alcohol. Wonderful aromatics: floral, bitter herbs, a hint of toffee sweetness, as well as notes of tangerine and grapefruit. The palate is warm and lively with lovely complexity. Rich yet fresh. Brilliant. 9.5/10

BrewDog 5 A.M. Saint Amber Ale
Warm, malty, hoppy nose. Rich with some sweetness but also nice herby, hoppy notes. Boldly flavoured. 8/10

  1. Was delighted to find these at my local Sainsbury’s the other day (esp with 5am Saint reduced to £1.02). Previously they had only stocked Punk.

But must say I find the Hardcore way too hot on the alcohol. Love the bright floral, peach hopping of the Punk, and 5am Saint is pretty excellent as well.
