My column has grown!

Some good news. I've been asked to grow my Sunday Express column from five wines a week to seven. It means more work, but it also allows me to get more wines into the paper. Pictured is last Sunday's set of recommendations, which was the first of the expanded columns.

The wines? Churchill Estates 2005 Douro (£8.99 Majestic); Mont Tauch Fitou 2005 Languedoc, France (£3.98 Asda); Douglas Green Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 Paarl, South Africa (£4.99 Sainsbury, Waitrose); Babich Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2004 Hawkes Bay, New Zealand (£7.99 Tesco); Wild Rock Gravel Pit Red Merlot Malbec 2005 Hawkes Bay, New Zealand (£9.99 Waitrose); Fairtrade Shiraz 2007 Curico, Chile (£5.49 M&S); and Spy Mountain Pinot Noir 2006 Marlborough, New Zealand (£9.99 Majestic, £15.98 for two).

Jamie,

Congratulations.
I trust your salary has increased in direct proportion to the number of wines tasted and described.

Jamie,

Seeing as there's no Glenfiddich awards this year, will you be able to keep that banner at the top of the page, because there won't be a replacement for at least 12 months? ;-)

Stuart.

Is your brief to only rate wines sold in supermarkets Jamie?
Do not rate that DG cab myself but then what do you expect for under a fiver

Thanks guys. Keith - mostly supermarkets, but also the likes of majestic, oddbins, thresher and the occasional independent.

I thought the DG cab was good value for money at under £5

It would be nice if you had licence to recommend more expensive wines,or do your editors think the readership only buys cheap wines?
Mind you all the other papers seem to be the same which is why I very rarely read them

Keith, Jamie's brief at the Sunday Express will undoubtedly be quite tight.

There aren't many wine columns in the tabloids where you see wines recommended much above a tenner.

Not just the tabloids surely? The Sunday Times, seems to also focus on rubbish----------sorry "good value" wines.
Do they think their readers are morons or unwilling to pay more than a tenner for wine?
Maybe they think people who will pay more than this, will subscribe to Decanter,or heaven forbid Harpers!!

Hey there Jamie. I was wondering if there is anywhere where I am able to catch up with the wines/beers etc etc that you review in the sunday express. I get it whenever I can but sometimes just forget. Thanks.
