Roc des Anges: a serious white from the south of France

A remarkable white wine, made from centenarian Grenache Gris vines, plus a bit of Macabeu and Carignan Blanc, grown in amazing white quartz and black schist soils in the Roussillon.

Domaine Le Roc des Anges Blanc Les Vieilles Vignes 2007 Vin de Pays des Pyrénées Orientales, France
13.5% alcohol. Very fresh white wine with a lovely pithy grapefruit, lemon and herb nose, together with some waxy notes. The palate is complex with some sweetness to the pithy lemon and pear fruit, as well as some nuttiness. Real interest here: a subtle, interesting wine with a long nutty finish. 92/100 (UK agent: Les Caves de Pyrene)
