Just a note to readers. I have deleted the post I made commenting on Victoria Moore’s Telegraph article on the Chinese wine that won a trophy in the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA).
I apologise to all of you who took the time to comment. There were some excellent comments, but I feel we have had the discussion, and short of actually tasting the wine there is no more to say for now.
It got messy, and it upset people. I have no wish to upset people.
Also, I am a Panel Chair for the International Wine Challenge, a competitor to the DWWA. So it’s probably best for me not to comment on this matter any further.
I would love to get a chance to taste the award-winning wine.

Big move, Jamie. Respect.
Wow…I’m sorry I didn’t visit that particular post a second time…scandal!
Not very convincing.
‘There were some excellent comments, but I feel we have had the discussion, and short of actually tasting the wine there is no more to say for now.’
So why not delete all old posts?
‘It got messy, and it upset people. I have no wish to upset people.
A wine blog is always going to upset someone and so it should.
‘Also, I am a Panel Chair for the International Wine Challenge, a competitor to the DWWA. So it’s probably best for me not to comment on this matter any further.’
So don’t. But why stop others?
Jamie should have declared his IWC role right from the start, particularly as he promised greater transparency in his blog posts a year or so ago.
The original article was a very snide dig at Decanter and the DWWA, and he was rightly taken to task over it by Decanter’s editor.
Not ideal, I know, and I’m sorry for those who took the time to comment. But I really think that on balance it was best to delete it.
People…you can find Jamie’s post cached online, just do a search. Ah, the wonders of the internet…you may run jamie, but you can’t hide!
Ahhh “John Smith”…you again – the original “very snide dig” was nothing of the sort – are you capable of making reasoned balanced comments or just out to be critical at every opportunity?
I’m not a wine trade insider so don’t know if the original comment was a ‘snide dig’ or not. But if it was as ‘reasoned (and) balanced’ as you expect the posts of others to be – why has it been deleted?
Further comment from Chris K here: http://winedr.blogspot.com/2011/10/censorship-by-harassment.html
It’s Jamie’s site – he can write any opinion he likes as long as he doesn’t break any laws. The original post simply stated what many others thought, and there was no dig. Just observation, comment and supposition. The hallmarks of any decent blog.
