Northern Rhone series 24, Jeanne Gaillard Syrah

Jeanne Gaillard is the daughter of Pierre, well known grower in the Northern Rhone. At the age of 24 she landed 13 hectares of vineyards, five in Crozes Hermitage and eight in the Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes.

This is a Vin de Pays Syrah from the region, and it’s really lovely. Interestingly, the cork says 2009 but the label 2010. Apparently the label is telling the truth, and this tastes quite 2010, a brilliant vintage where the wines show great typicity.

For the offer price of £8.49 it’s cracking value for money. I bought some.

Jeanne Gaillard Syrah 2010 Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes, Northern Rhone, France
12% alcohol. An elegant, Burgundian style of Syrah. Fresh, subtly peppery, with some meaty cherry fruit. Nicely perfumed and midweight on the palate with a little structure, but the dominant theme here is a light, fresh, pure expression of cool climate Syrah that is so easy to drink. 91/100 (Majestic, £9.99 currently on offer at £8.49 per bottle if you buy 2)
