New releases from Gusbourne, one of the top sparkling wine producers in the UK. Really impressive.
Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2015 England
12% alcohol. 53% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 7% Pinot Meunier, three years on lees. Concentrated and with lovely, well integrated acidity, this is a serious English sparkling wine showing some toast and peach richness, but the main theme is the wonderfully precise crystalline citrus fruit character. There’s a subtle creaminess here, too. Has a delightful expanding lemony finish. Lovely stuff. 93/100
Gusbourne Rosé 2015 England
12% alcohol. This is lovely, and even better for not being bottled in clear glass (which avoids the very real risk of light strike). It has a pale pink colour with some orange hints, and aromas of wild strawberries, orange peel and lemons. The palate is brisk and fresh with pure strawberry and green apple notes, around a citrussy core. Lovely supple fruit here: a really elegant expression of pink fizz. 92/100
