I’m a big sherry fan, as I think most of my wine nut friends are. Great sherry is one of the most affordable of all fine wines, which is a good thing. This little gem is from El Maestro Sierra, a small sherry house owned by the nonagenarian Pilar Pla Pechovierto, and is very traditional. This fino spends longer on the lees than is normal, and is bottled straight from the lees with just a bit of cold stabilization and no filtration. It is imported into the UK by the wonderful Indigo Wine (www.indigowine.com).
El Maestro Sierra Fino Sherry NV
15% alcohol. Wonderfully rich, complex and aromatic. Salty, nutty and expressive, with lovely perfume. The palate is rounded and nutty with a savoury, tangy edge. Thrilling stuff: really complex and broad. 94/100

Lovely sherry, hard to find, even in Jerez. Bought some direct from the bodega. No shop, just ring the bell.
Thanks for the comment Richard and the review Jamie. Easy to find in the UK! Retail: Woodwinters, Bottle Apostle, Harvey Nicholls, Jeroboams. Restaurants: Moro, Trangallan, Jose Pizarro, Hakkasan, L’Autre Pied. Salud!
Olly, easy to find in London, maybe. I’ll try Harvey Nichols in Birmingham but it’s a very small wine shop so I’m not hopeful.
