I’ve enjoyed drinking this wine over the last two evenings. It’s the ‘second’ wine of Douro star property Quinta do Noval, and I think it’s a really good wine in its own right, offering the essence of Douro table wine in a relatively affordable bottle.
It’s named after the famous cedar tree at Noval, under which I had a memorable tasting back in 2009, with far more wines and ports opened than were strictly necessary.
Cedro do Noval 2009 Douro, Portugal
Sweet black cherry and plum fruit. Supple with some fruit sweetness but also some savoury mineral notes, too. Black cherries, spice and nice definition and structure. A really stylish, midweight, balanced Douro red that would be a great place to start if you want to known what the Douro tastes like, in terms of table wines rather than ports. 91/100
