A couple from the Jura: Overnoy and Miroirs

jura overnoy

Had these two beauties in Terroirs on Friday. With a lovely group of friends. These wines are both natural, and super-famous within the natural community. I find them quite beautiful.

Pierre Overnoy Ploussard Arbois Pupillin 2014 Jura, France
12.5% alcohol. This remarkable wine is a cloudy red/pink in colour, and it’s one of those bottles that you either love or you hate. It’s animal, lively and expressive with complex spicy aromatics. Cherries, plums, so vital, a little bit fizzy with a faint hint of mousiness in the background. Complex, detailed and really delicious. But not easy. 94/100

Domaine des Miroirs Entre Deux Bleus ‘Les Saugettes’ 2013 Jura, France
From Kenjiro Kagami, who has 3 ha of vines and is very highly spoken of, this Jura Savagnin is really mineral and spicy, with some matchstick notes. Fresh and fine with attractive apple notes in the background. Taut, mineral and complex, this is just lovely. 94/100
