Prince Edward County, Ontario (7) Rosehall Run

Dan Sullivan, Rosehall Run

Dan Sullivan is an old timer by County standards, but he’s only been making wines since 2001, when he first planted wines on his property. He started out as an award-winning home winemaker, but this was a hobby that grew out of control, and now he farms 25 acres of vines on a 150 acre property that used to be a tomato canning facility.

We tried some of his older wines, and these showed why the County is such an exciting place for wine growing: they had developed beautifully.

Rosehall Run Stardust 2011 Prince Edward County, Canada
Tight and citrussy with nice acidity. Lovely lively, vibrant fruit. Subtle toast. 90/100

Rosehall Run JCR Chardonnay 2017 Prince Edward County, Canada
This has rich toastiness as well as bright, expressive lemony fruit. Harmonious with a bit of pear richness and a fine spiciness. Nice detail here. 93/100

Rosehall Run Rosehall Vineyard Chardonnay 2009 Prince Edward County, Canada
Screwcapped. From a vineyard planted in 2001. This is still so fresh with lovely citrus and white peach notes, as well as some pear. Has great precision. A lovely wine that is still very much alive at almost 10 years of age. 93/100

Rosehall Run Pinot Noir Rosehall Vineyard 2007 Prince Edward County, Canada
12% alcohol. Still fresh and delicate with sappy red cherry fruit, fine herbs and lovely precision. Refined and complex with nice sappiness. 94/100

Rosehall Run JCR Pinot Noir 2017 Prince Edward County, Canada
Supple and sappy with nice fine red cherry and plum fruit. Has delicacy and poise. Very expressive: light with nice complexity. 93/100
