Prince Edward County, Ontario (3) Stanners

Colin Stanners

Colin Stanners was a chemist, and moved to California where he started drinking wine. He moved back to Canada and wanted to make his own, so he thought the County would be a good place. He started planting in 2005, and then carried on, and now has 8 acres of vines.

Stanners Riesling 2016 Ontario, Canada
This has 95% Beamsville Bench fruit, with 5% from the County, hence it is labelled Ontario. Destemmed, one day skin contact, then pressed and left to ferment and age on lees. Dense, dry, mineral and pithy with good concentration and some fruit richness. Has apple and pear notes. Intense. 90/100

Stanners Pinot Gris 2016 Prince Edward County, Canada
Destemmed and then the juice is left to sit with skins for three days. Has some pink colour. Nice apple and citrus fruit with a bit of structure. Shows freshness as well as a slight creamy twist. 89/100

Stanners Chardonnay 2016 Prince Edward County, Canada
Half in oak, half in stainless steel. Delicate with nice subtle toast and meal notes, as well as some spice. Textured with nice pear fruit and some creamy notes on the finish. 90/100

Stanners Pinot Noir 2017 Prince Edward County, Canada
Cherries, plums and some sour cherry, with precision. Good depth of flavour with keen acidity. A fresh, light style with good focus. 91/100

Stanners Cabernet Franc 2017 Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara, Canada
This is whole berry ferment. Supple, bright, light and juicy with nice raspberry and cherry fruit and a juicy quality. Light and focused. 89/100
