Had this delicious wine from southern Styria winery Werlitsch at Newcomer Wines in Dalston. Newcomer has a brilliant selection of wine, focusing on Austria but taking in interesting natural/authentic wines from elsewhere, too. And you drink in for a £10 corkage fee, which makes this place one of the best for drinking great wine in London. It’s not a restaurant, but there are nice charcuterie and cheese options.

12.5% alcohol. This is really special. A blend of Sauvignon and Chardonnay aged in big ‘Pauscha’ barrels, it’s Dagueneau meets Raveneau, as my drinking companion observes. From limestone/clay-rich soils, this is the late bottling that has spent four years in barrel. Minerally with a matchstick edge, this is very fine and fresh with linear citrus fruit and a bit of toastiness. So mineral and expressive with a saline edge, nice citrus notes and fine spiciness. Detailed, taut and compact. 96/100
