New Douro 2004 tasting
The wines
of Gouvyas, Infantado, Luis Soares Duarte and Kolheita

Continuing the round up of Douro 2004s, here's are notes on some more wines, which all have a winemaking connection.

Joćo Roseira: Quinta do Infantado and Bago de Touriga
Joćo Roseira (pictured) is the dude behind Quinta do Infantado. He works organically in the vineyards; winemaking is in the hands of Luis Soares Duarte. Bago de Touriga is the company that they share together, and the brand name for these wines is Gouvyas. Here I tried the white, which is impressive, but they also make a red. Joćo has his own slightly offbeat blog here.

Bago de Touriga Gouvyas Reserva Branco 2004
Lovely aromatic nose is limey and bright with good depth and zippy freshness. The palats is expressive and complex with a delicious, weighty, fruity character. A brilliant effort. Very good/excellent 92/100

Quinta do Infantado 2004
Fresh, precise pure red and black fruit nose. The palate is pure and quite elegant, with a savoury, spicy edge to the fresh red fruits. Good definition here, with nice structure. Very good/excellent 91/100

Luis Soares Duarte

As well as working with several other projects, Luis is making his own wines.

Luis Soares Duarte Perfil 2004
This is an inexpensive wine (€3–5 ex cellars), but it is quite impressive. Tight, slightly reduced dark fruits nose. The palate shows generous fruit: it’s fresh and savoury with nice purity. Very good+ 86/100

Luis Soares Duarte Momentos 2004
His top wine, made from old vineyards. Lovely fresh, perfumed fruit on the nose. Mainly red fruits. The palate shows concentrated red fruits with nice purity and structure. Fresh, savoury and bright: a lovely wine. Very good/excellent 92/100

Kolheita de Ideias
This label is a collaboration between Luis Soares Duarte, Francisco Ferreira (of Vallado) and Rui Moreira (see www.wineanorak.com/kolheitadeideias.htm)

Kolheita 2004
Very sweet, open, perfumed nose. Quite lush. The palate is dense, spicy and chewy. A modern style of wine. Lush and upfront. Very good/excellent 90/100
