Prince Edward County, Ontario (13) Traynor Family Vineyard

Mike Traynor

Mike Traynor is the owner/winemaker of this 1000 case operation, Traynor Family Vineyard. He has 5.5 acres of vines, which supply 70% of his needs. He doesn’t destem anything: the wines are either whole-cluster pressed or fermented with whole bunches.

Traynor Sauvignon Blanc 2017 Prince Edward County, Canada
Pithy and bright with nice fresh citrus fruit, and some herbal hints. There’s a bit of pithy grip, too. Attractive savoury, mineral style. 88/100

Traynor Chardonnay Skin Fermented 2016 Prince Edward County, Canada
This spends three weeks on its skins. Deep gold in colour, it’s rich and concentrated with nice pear, peach and citrus fruit. Powerful with some appley character. A dense wine in an oxidative style that’s full of interest. 91/100

Traynor 5th Element 2016 Prince Edward County, Canada
This is a white blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc fermented together. Powerful spicy pear and white peach fruit with nice citrus brightness and a hint of marmalade. Some tannic grip. 92/100

Traynor Pinot Noir 2016 Prince Edward County, Canada
Lovely aromatic bright cherry fruit nose with a sour cherry hint. The palate is fresh and supple with bright red cherries and nice texture, as well as good acidity. Such finesse here with some sappy delicacy. 93/100

Traynor Cabernet Franc 2017 Prince Edward County, Canada
Lovely blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Supple and expressive with lovely sweet berry fruits. Nicely weighted and expressive. Such focus and precision. 93/100
