This is a remarkable wine, made by large producer Ventisquero on a very small scale from vineyards in the Atacama desert, in the far north of the country. It hardly every rains here, so the soils are quite unique. I reported on the Tara white a while back after tasting it in Chile; this red is also the second vintage of this wine, made from ungrafted wines and without any sulphur dioxide until bottling. So far 4.5 hecatres have been planted in these limestone based soils; another 8 hectares are on the way.
Tara Red Wine 1 Pinot Noir 2012 Atacama Valley, Chile
13% alcohol, wild ferment, unfiltered. Sweet, textured and ripe with smooth cherry and plum fruit, finishing a little spicy. Aromas of sweet cherries and herbs with some roast meat undertones. Such a lovely, distinctive wine that tastes quite natural, with real personality. Finishes warm and spicy. 92/100
