It&#8217;s made from old vines (interestingly, not Touriga Nacional, the celebrity grape, which used to be quite rare in old vineyards), and has an unusual bottle shape &#8211; short and squat like an 18th century bottle. <\/p>\n<p>What do I like about this? I think it&#8217;s terribly young, and needs a lot of time to show its best, but there&#8217;s freshness and elegance. And while there&#8217;s considerable structure, the tannins are quite fine and not at all angular. Above all, it isn&#8217;t over-ripe, although it still weighs in at 14.5% alcohol. Only time will tell, but I think this will age really well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quinta Nova Mirabilis Grande Reserva 2011 Douro, Portugal<br \/>\n<\/strong>Lovely freshness here: vivid aromatic raspberry and black cherry nose with some minerals and spice. The palate is fresh and vivid with tight berry and black cherry fruit, with good acidity. I really like the freshness, and rather than being a monster, this is quite elegant. There&#8217;s lots of structure and some well integrated oak, but the tannins are really fine grained.
