Had a lovely evening on Thursday. It was a last-minute invitation from Roberson’s\u00a0Mark Andrew, who was holding a small dinner\u00a0for new\u00a0agency Hirsch: Jasmine Hirsch, daughter of founder David Hirsch was in town with wines in tow.<\/p>\n

I have written up the wines – some of California’s most exciting Pinot Noirs – separately here<\/a>. They are impressively balanced and show a distinctive personality that isn’t Burgundy, but which is as interesting as Burgundy, if you see\u00a0what I mean.<\/p>\n

The dinner was held at The Grain Store<\/a>, a really impressive new restaurant located in the newly redeveloped Granary Square. This is one of London’s new public spaces,\u00a0part of the ongoing King’s Cross regeneration, and\u00a0looked quite beautiful in the warm colours of a\u00a0late summer evening. It’s just across Regent’s Canal from King’s Cross station.<\/p>\n

The Grain Store specializes in vegetable dishes, and\u00a0the food – a succession of small plates – was\u00a0properly innovative\u00a0and delicious. Thoroughly recommended, and I’m going to try to get back as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
