Ah, Portugal. One of my favourite wine countries. Here are three good bottles from The Wine Society that are affordable and tasty.<\/p>\n

Campolargo Alvarelh\u00e3o 2011\u00a0Bairrada, Portugal<\/strong>
\nThis is brilliant. It’s from a variety that’s also grown in Galicia, where it is known as Brancellao (it was a component in this wine <\/a>reviewed recently), and which makes medium\/light bodied wines with lovely aromatics. This wine has an exotic floral cherry and plum perfume with some peppery notes. It’s seductive but has a hint of seriousness, with a spicy, sappy quality as well as sweet fruit. Beaujolais meets Pinot meets Crozes. Just so drinkable and fresh, but with enough grippy structure to stop it from being confected. Finishes dry. 90\/100 (\u00a310.95 The Wine Society)<\/p>\n

Valle Pradinhos Porta Velho Tinto 2010 Tras-os-Montes, Portugal<\/strong>
\nThis is grippy, lively and robust with nice raspberry and cherry fruit, as well as firm tannins and notes of gravel and minerals. A fresh, savoury red with real appeal. Needs food. 88\/100 (\u00a37.50 The Wine Society)<\/p>\n
