It is relatively neglected, but when it’s good, it’s really good, and this is one of the gooduns. It is from Greywacke, whose 2012 Sauvignon Blanc is also really good, but this Chardonnay stood out as even better. It isn’t cheap, but I reckon it’s the qualitative equivalent of serious white Burgundy, and will repay ageing.

Greywacke Chardonnay 2010 Marlborough, New Zealand
14.5% alcohol. Wild yeast ferment. So complex, with a bit of matchstick minerality on the nose as well as ripe pear and peach fruit and some toastiness. The palate is bold, full and concentrated, with nectarine, pear and spice notes. Good acidity. A complex wine. 94/100

Find this wine with wine-searcher.com

Kiwi Chardonnay can be great.
