It\u2019s made from some unfamiliar varieties, but Jancis, Julia and Jose\u2019s book (<a href=\"http:\/\/winegrapes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wine Grapes<\/a>) has helped me out. First we have Sous\u00f3n, which is the same as Vinh\u00e3o or Sous\u00e3o, a variety popular in the Douro and Vinho Verde. It produces wonderfully deep coloured wines. Then we have Cai\u00f1o, which is Borra\u00e7a from Vinho Verde, and is known for its thick skins. Finally, Brancellao, which is known in Portugal as Alvarelh\u00e3o. It was a popular grape in the Douro, known for high quality, but now there\u2019s just 67 hectares left in Portugal and 17 in Spain. It\u2019s a component of Yarra Yering Dry Red No 3 from the Yarra Valley.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sameir\u00e1s Tinto 2011 Ribeiro, Spain<\/strong><br \/>\nA blend of Sous\u00f3n, Cai\u00f1o Tinto and Brancellao from Galicia in Spain. Sweet, fresh cherry and berry fruits dominate this wine, which is really pure with hints of pepper. It\u2019s bright and focused with a nice savoury twist and hints of sappiness. Lively, fresh and delicious.
