A while back I reported on Asda selling the respectable Southbank Estate Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, NZ) for \u00a33. Picked up a Crozes-Hermitage on a quick dash to the Asda store over the road this evening, again for just \u00a33.<\/p>\n

Now averagely good Crozes-Hermitage should be about \u00a38. The good stuff is north of a tenner. How does this one stack up?<\/p>\n

It’s Ogier Crozes-Hermitage \u00a0‘Les Brunnelles’ 2007<\/strong>, but remember not to confuse the negociant eleveur Antoine Ogier (who make this wine) with the Cote-Rotie producer Muchel and Stephane Ogier. The wine is deep coloured with lovely vibrant, modern raspberry and plum fruit. There’s a hint of meatiness and a little bit of the Northern Rhone Syrah pepper character, but it’s not totally obviously a Crozes Hermitage, and I count this relative lack of typicity as a negative). Still, it’s a delicious wine with good concentration and nice fruit, and just stunning value at this clearance price. I’d give it 87\/100, and it’s a wine I’m very happy to drink at an absurdly low price.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
