They&#8217;re so nicely judged. Unfortunately the reds from this producer, under the brand name\u00a0Pitaccum, suffer the Spanish disease of an elevage that involves too much oak, for too long.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Terras Gauda O Rosal 2011 R\u00edas Baixas, Spain<br \/>\n<\/strong>70% Albari\u00f1o, 20% Loureiro, 10% Cai\u00f1o, fermented in stainless steel. Fine, fresh, aromatic and expressive with aromas of honeysuckle, white peach and citrus peel. The palate is lively and mineral; almost spicy, with good acidity and taut citrus fruit. Lovely precision here. 92\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>Terras Gauda Abadia de San Campo Albari\u00f1o 2011 R\u00edas Baixas, Spain<br \/>\n<\/strong>Fermented in stainless steel. Aromatic, open\u00a0\u00a0nose shows citrus, pineapple and pear fruit. Quite forward. The palate is full and ripe with nice fruity character (citrus, pear, melon) and a pure, fresh personality. 90\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>Terras Gauda \u2018La Mar\u2019 2010 R\u00edas Baixas, Spain<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is 80% Cai\u00f1o Branco. Tight and fruit driven with notes of herb and citrus pith, as well as some melon fruit. Concentrated flavours with good acidity. Lovely aromatic notes of honey, citrus and melon. Complex, taut and powerful. This is a fabulous wine that really needs time in the glass to open out. 93\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pittacum \u2018Aurea\u2019 2007 Bierzo, Spain<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is 100% Menc\u00eda, from century old vines, aged for 14 months in French oak. Rich, ripe, quite lush and creamy with noticeable oak influence. There\u2019s nice fresh cherry and blackberry fruit here but also more lush, ripe, almost hammy characters and some grippy tannins. Too much time in too much oak? 88\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pittacum 2007 Bierzo, Spain<br \/>\n<\/strong>Menc\u00eda from 50\u201380 year old vines, with 8 months in French and American oak. Vivid, intense, bright black cherry and blackberry fruit nose. Vivid and intense with some subtle tarry notes. Nicely intense with good definition.
