Some great visits today. All in beautiful sunshine. Once again, pictures will have to suffice. Words will come later. The day began with a visit to Neil Ellis’ new cellar door. I like his wines a lot: they emphasize freshness and focus. I really liked his Pinotage, which was quite Burgundian. And he’s making a new Grenache from a region I’d never come across before – Piekenierskloof.<\/p>\n

Then it was off to Thelema, an immaculate estate on the Simonsberg. I was hosted by Gyles Webb and his son Thomas. Such an impressive range of wines that some seem to have forgotten about. Superb wines also from their Elgin property under the Sutherland label.<\/p>\n

Next visit was to neighbours Tokara, with winemaker Miles Mossop and viticulurist Aidan Morton. Very impressive wines here, including a fabulous new Syrah (not released yet) and the brilliant Director’s Reserve white.<\/p>\n

Then it was off to Oldenburg, a new-ish property in the Bangkhoek Valley. Such a lovely spot, and great wines including a stunning Syrah 2009, with winemaker and viticulturist Simon Thompson.<\/p>\n

Finally, a lovely end to the day. Tasting and dinner at Reyneke, with Johan Reyneke, Rudiger Gretchel and the team, including Ryan Mostert and Sam Suddons who I’d met\u00a0at the Swartland Revolution. Such a great group of people with positive energy. Biodynamics has really kicked in here and the wines are just fabulous. Take your pick of the Reserve white, Syrah and Reserve red from the 2009 and 2010 vintages – they are all fabulous, complex, vital wines. \u00a0<\/p>\n
