Great afternoon and evening. I’d been invited to the 20\/20 cricket match that was being held at the Old Deer Park in Richmond, close to where I live, by my buddy Ade of Clear Partners<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before the cricket, there was a testimonial lunch for Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell, who among his accomplishments scored 299 v Essex in 2006<\/a>. In attendance were fellow Glamorgan player and now cricket correspondent Steve James, ex-England wicket keeper Geraint Jones, and Wales rugby international Tom Shanklin, who won 70 caps as centre, scoring 20 tries.<\/p>\n

Shanklin is a top bloke. He’s unassuming and completely candid – in a question and answer session he answered tricky questions about Gavin Henson with complete candour. Should Henson go to the world cup? No. He’d be a disruptive influence on the side. He said he’d treat the recent international he was selected for as if it was his first cap. Did he? No. ‘I wish someone would ask me to go on a dating show’, joked Shanklin.<\/p>\n

The game itself wasn’t up to much: Middlesex were bowled out for 103, with Glamorgan spinners Croft and Cosker doing the damage. Fascinatingly, one of the Glamorgan players was Tasmania’s Mark Cosgrove. With his girth, he brings hope to all of us.
