Crisp and clean with lovely pear fruit and some citrus brightness. Quite linear with some stony notes. Some nice grassy Sauvignon hints. Clean and crisp. 88/100

Serego Alighieri Possessioni Rosso di Veronese 2015 IGT
This wine used to be a Valpolicella before but a few years ago it began to include Sangiovese (the Alighieri family is from Tuscany). 16% in the blend, along with 14% Molinara. This is supple and juicy with sappy, slightly tarry red berry fruits and a bit of sour cherry character, and some spice. Nicely textured with a sour, bitter twist on the finish that works really well. Good acid structure. 90/100

Serego Alighieri MontePiazzo Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2015
30% semi-dried grapes. Single vineyard with a mix of VSP and pergola. Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Limestone-richs soils. Supple, fresh and nicely detailed with a bit of spice and some rounded sour cherry, plum and blackberry fruit. There’s good acidity and some structure here, with fleshy fruit and nice smooth texture. Fresh and stylish. 93/100

Serego Alighieri Vaio Amaron Amarone delle Valpolicella Classico 2012
15.5% alcohol. Single vineyard, limestone soils. Crush the grapes but don’t destem everything. So fresh, complex, elegant and detailed with lovely purity. There’s focused red cherry and blackberry fruit here with a supple, smooth texture and bright, fine-grained structure. Lovely precision with fine acidity. Such a beautiful expression of Amarone with pure fruit. 96/100

Serego Alighieri Casal dei Ronchi 2014 Recioto Della Valpolicella Classico
Residual sugar level in this between 60 and 70 g/l each year. Sweet and supple with nice spicy grip and floral cherries, raspberries and spice notes. There’s a bit of tarry savouriness as well as supple, bright juicy berry fruits. There’s some grippy structure here under the sweet fruit. Very appealing sweet style with nice freshness adding balance. 92/100

Find these wines with wine-searcher.com

See also: Visiting Masi, Valpolicella

Last November, as well as visiting Masi, I also visited Serego Alighieri, where we were hosted by Massimilla di Serego Alighieri.
