Ben Riccardo, Osmote<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Osmote<\/a> is one of our finds from the New York trip. It\u2019s the project of Ben Riccardi, who grew up in New York State (born in Ithaca, and studied at Cornell), but has travelled the wine world widely. His winemaking CV includes stints in New Zealand, France, Australia, California and Chile.<\/p>\n

He spent four years as assistant winemaker at the City Winery in Manhattan, and is currently employed by Damiani Wine Cellars in the Finger Lakes. He began Osmote in 2014. These are wines with elegance and definition.<\/p>\n

Osmote Seneca Lake Chardonnay 2015 Finger Lakes, New York<\/strong>
\n13.1% alcohol. Wild ferment in 400 and 500 litre barrels. Nutty, spicy and dense with a sweet pear and peach character, and a warm mid palate. Rich but focused with nice crystalline acidity and even a hint of pineapple. Very bright and textural at the same time with some mealy hints and a saline finish. 92\/100<\/p>\n

Osmote Seneca Lake Chardonnay 2017 Finger Lakes, New York<\/strong>
\n13.1% alcohol. Very bright and fresh with zippy gooseberry and lemon and a bit of white peach. Lovely textured palate with citrus, pineapple and some mealy spiciness. Saline and linear, showing traces of richness but keeping everything hemmed in. Complex mineral style. 93\/100<\/p>\n

Osmote Seneca Lake Cabernet Franc 2017 Finger Lakes, New York<\/strong>
\n13.1% alcohol. Half semi-carbonic, half destemmed. This is juicy and fresh with supple red cherry and berry fruits. It’s fine-grained and juicy with nice bright raspberry crunch. Aiming at elegance with nice purity and spicy complexity. Very supple and expressive. Great balance. 92\/100<\/p>\n
