Now I’ve had the chance to taste his ‘aromatics’: the term used in New Zealand to describe Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.

Greywacke Riesling 2009 Marlborough, New Zealand
11.5% alcohol. From a single vineyard site in Fairhall. Delicate, fine, aromatic nose of lime, lemon, herbs and honey. The palate is off-dry with nice texture and sweet melon and lemon fruit, as well as some minerality. Good acidity. Really attractive. 90/100

Greywacke Pinot Gris 2009 Marlborough, New Zealand
14.5% alcohol. Complex and grapey on the nose with some herby smoky notes. The palate is fresh and spicy with rich texture. There’s a bit of pepper here, too, and a hint of sweetness, although it finishes dry and spicy. Lively, rich, fresh and enticing. 92/100

Greywacke Late Harvest Gewurztraminer 2009 Marlborough
From a single vineyard site in Brancott. 12% alcohol. Very sweet, melony and intense with lively pear and grape fruitiness and some spicy vitality. It’s not too musky, and the balance is just right between the sweetness and acidity. Delicious. 93/100

UK agent: Liberty Wines

Find these wines with wine-searcher.com

A few weeks back I reported on the lovely Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc, from Kevin Judd.
