2008 is looking like a very good vintage in Champagne. The summer was a cool one, and the season was saved by beautiful sunny days just before and during harvest. The result? A healthy crop with high levels of acidity, which is usually good for producing ageworthy fizz, even if they can be a bit difficult when they are young.<\/p>\n

This 2008 from Taittinger really impresses. It’s linear and pure with a lovely core of lemony acidity, but there’s also a bit of sweet fruitiness to provide balance. It’s one to cellar for a few years, I reckon.<\/p>\n

\nMade from first pressings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in equal proportions, this is very pure and fresh with nice sweet grape, honey and toast richness adding balance to the core of taut lemony fruit. It’s very pure and fruit-driven with lovely integrated acidity. There’s some attractive pear and grape sweetness which adds a seductive quality to the otherwise intellectual appeal of linearity and keen acidity. 92\/100<\/p>\n
