The iPhone 6. I remember when it first came out. I was at an event and a tech journalist had one, before its general release, for review purposes. I had a quick play. I didn’t like it very much. I was still in love with my 5, and I felt that the 6 was just a little too big for the pocket, and that it had lost some of its iPhone-ness \u2013 it looked quite similar to other smart phones.<\/p>\n
But then, when it came round to upgrade time, I had a change of heart. Rather than opt for a 5S, I went for the 6. I am so glad I did, because it is brilliant. It’s pretty much the same as the 5 in terms of operation, but it has two great advantages. First of all, the bigger screen size. It’s not the biggest phone around, but just that little extra size makes a difference. Second \u2013 and this is the main reason you should probably get a 6 if you haven’t already got one \u2013 the camera.<\/p>\n
The camera on the iPhone 6 is remarkable. The 5 had a pretty decent camera, but the 6 is even better. How do they get the quality they do with such a small sensor? I am so impressed with the results. For most blogging purposes it is fine. I still use a proper camera, but unless you are a camera geek and you’re prepared to spend quite a bit on a serious camera, the 6 is the only camera you need. And it’s the camera that is always with you.<\/p>\n
I can’t believe that I didn’t fall in love with this phone when I first saw it. But I guess this is because as humans, we often find change difficult. It’s like that with anything we spend a lot of time with. We become comfortable with the way things are, and any change seems complicated and unwelcome, even though \u2013 as with my phone \u2013 I can’t believe I didn’t get it straight away.<\/p>\n
It’s amazing what you can do as a blogger with just a laptop, an iPhone 6 and a lust for travel. Although I’d add to this short list a good supply of Moleskine notebooks (because I am a partial luddite) and my Olympus Pen EP5.
