He has an estate in the Upper Langkloof, a ward in the Klein Karoo on the garden route, quite a way east from Cape Town. This isn&#8217;t a major wine region, and it&#8217;s the combination of altitude and sea breezes that make this a good place for wine grapes.<\/p>\n<p>Here are my notes on the wines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goose Shiraz 2011 Upper-Langkloof, South Africa<\/strong><br \/>\n14% alcohol. Sweet, enticing and seductive nose of raspberry jam and floral cherries with some vanilla. Vanilla and coconut imprint to the sweet yet fresh berry fruits palate. Has a degree of deliciousness like a young Rioja with a strong oaky sheen. 88\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goose Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Upper-Langkloof, South Africa<\/strong><br \/>\n14% alcohol. Fresh and nicely poised with medium bodied sweet berry fruits and a hint of chalky greenness. Fresh and easy to drink but not lacking concentration. Nice pure fruit and potential for development. 90\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goose Pinot Noir 2012 Western Cape, South Africa<\/strong><br \/>\n13.5% alcohol. Sweet, supple and spicy with some density to the cherry and raspberry fruit. Has grippy structure and a disinct savoury spiciness. Not as elegant as the best Pinots; perhaps a bit more Grenache-like. 87\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goose Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Upper-Langkloof, South Africa<\/strong><br \/>\n13.5% alcohol, from 2500 foot altitude. Lovely aromatics: floral, gooseberry, passionfruit, grassy tomato leaf. The palate is green but delicate with expressive fruit. Quite delicious. 91\/100<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Goose Expression 2008 Upper-Langkloof, South Africa<\/strong><br \/>\n14.2% alcohol, a blend of two-thirds Shiraz and a third Cabernet Sauvignon. Spicy, smoky, cedary, gravelly nose, with ripe blackcurrant and berry fruits. The palate is developed, rich, warm and quite delicious with notes of leather and herbs, berries and earth, leading to a savoury drying finish.
