The problem this creates for me is I’m perpetually feeling a bit guilty for not plugging certain interesting regions or styles often enough, and one country that I think over-delivers in terms of interest is Austria. Here are three Austrian wines from Tegernseerfhof – a producer new to me. They’re really good. Imported into the UK by Stevens Garnier.

Tegernseerhof Loibenberg Gruner Veltliner 2007 Wachau, Austria
13% alcohol. Lovely varietally true pear and melon nose with some grapey sweetness and a bit of pepper. The palate is fresh and full flavoured with lovely grapey, melony richness and some peppery notes. Finishes dry. Nice flavour and depth here. 92/100

Tegernseerhof Steinertal Riesling 2007 Wachau, Austria
13% alcohol. Minerally, smoky, savoury edge to the sweet lemony, limey nose with some honeyed sweetness. The palate has fruit sweetness with melon, pear and lemon notes. Nice texture with some minerally complexity. Nicely poised, combining complexity with a bit of richness. 91/100

Tegernseerhof Kellerberg Riesling 2007 Wachau, Austria
Fresh, aromatic and limey with honeyed sweetness to the fruit. The palate is crisp, fresh and quite mineral with a steely, tingly edge to the fresh citrus fruit. Very bright and focused. This is dry with high acidity, and it is satisfyingly intense. 90/100

Find these wines with wine-searcher.com

The world is awash with interesting wine, even if you have to dig around a bit to find it.
