A famous old domaine in Volnay that has recently been
revitalized by Patrick Landanger, since his debut 1999 vintage.
Typically one-third new oak is used on these wines. UK agent is The
Wine Treasury – their prices are given in brackets for each wine.
They are nice wines in a slightly modern mould, but as with many
decent red Burgundies, they aren’t cheap.
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Volnay 1er Cru Audignac 1999
Striking rich, ripe nose with sweet spicy cherryish fruit and some
wood evident. Good concentration and balance on the palate with a
distinct spicy edge. Showing a little bit too much wood at the moment,
but elegant. Very good/excellent (£31.54)
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets 1999
Deep coloured with a rich, ripe, spicy nose. Elegant expressive
cherry and berry fruit on the palate with an earthy, spicy edge. Good
concentration here. Very good/excellent (£32.93)
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Pommard 1er Cru Jarollières
1999
Developing some spicy perfume on the nose. The palate shows a good
concentration of savoury, spicy berry and cherry fruit palate with
good structure. Firm and currently a little woody, but real potential.
Very good/excellent (£35.72)
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2000
Forward bright cherry fruit nose with some spicy complexity. Firm,
spicy tannins on the palate: structured and quite concentrated with
lots of latent potential. Very good/excellent (£41.30)
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Corton Bressandes Grand Cru
2000
Herby, tarry spicy edge to the ripe fruit on nose. Elegant
herb-tinged fruit on the palate. Good concentration of savoury fruit
and quite structured. Tannic and with good acidity. Potential here.
Very good/excellent (£41.30)
