)
A strong line-up of whites here from this Marlborough producer.
They also do a Pinot Noir, which I didn't try.
Riesling 2000
In the past I've often been underwhelmed by NZ Riesling, but a
couple of recent examples (this and the Isabel Estate Riesling 2001)
have led me to change my opinion. A subtle nose of lime and floral
notes leads to a tasty, rich, full-flavoured palate with a touch of
spice. Very rich, and quite an impressive wine. Very good/excellent (Oddbins
£7.99)
Sauvignon Blanc 2000
There's a lovely, bright, expressive nose of ripe berry fruit,
with the usual Marlborough grassy and gooseberry characters. The
palate is lovely and ripe, with a rich texture. A full style, and
another impressive effort from this producer. Very good/excellent (Oddbins
£7.99)
Pinot Gris 2000
The nose here is pretty distinctive, showing sweet grapey fruit
with a smoky, spicy edge. The palate is quite fat textured, with a
fair dollop of residual sugar adding roundness and a touch of
sweetness on the finish. A big, rich wine. Very good (Everywine
£8.50)
Chardonnay 1999
Immediately I'm drawn in by the classy toasty, bready nose, with
some yeasty, nutty notes in the background. It has a rich textured,
full flavoured palate with rounded ripe fruit and well integrated oak.
Tasty. Very good/excellent (Everywine £8.50)
